WHAT IS A CONCUSSION?

A concussion is a brain injury caused by acceleration or deceleration of the brain within the skull following a significant impact to the head or elsewhere on the body. The impact causes a biochemical imbalance within the brain cells, resulting in decreased blood flow and temporary energy deficits within the brain. Symptoms may include loss of consciousness, headache, pressure in the head, neck pain, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, or balance problems, among others.

Cognitive Testing
Concussion testing evaluates your brain’s processing and thinking (cognitive) function after a head injury. A baseline concussion test may be performed before a sports season starts for athletes at risk of head injuries.
nutritional interventions

Following a concussion, levels of magnesium and zinc in the brain immediately drop – two crucial repair tools that the body utilizes. Our team will work with you to help determine areas of need to  optimize your recovery process.

integrated manual therapy

IMT is a non-aggressive method of manual therapy that works to decrease myofascial restrictions and spasm, correct joint biomechanics of the skeletal system and improve the function of the muscular, nervous, arterial, venous, lymphatic and energetic systems.

return to school, work or sport
After a concussion, an athlete should only return to sports practices with the approval and under the supervision of their health care provider. When available, be sure to also work closely with your team’s certified athletic trainer.
Balance Rehab
After a concussion, partial loss of vision, problems with depth perception, double vision, and more, can affect our ability to maintain balance which makes the recovery process more challenging. Our visual system analyzes primary sensory information to maintain postural balance.
Vision Rehab
Our therapists will work on many functional skills such as eye-tracking, focusing, handwriting, overall spatial awareness and more. Vision therapy has been found to assist the visual system to recover from issues that are often linked with post concussion syndrome.
exercise rehab
Exercising can be very beneficial for recovery from post concussion syndrome. Heart rate elevating exercise increases the blood flow to your brain, which speeds up the healing process. The movements related to exercising also helps trigger positive, normalizing nerve activity by the coordinating action of your arms, legs, neck and head as you move.
pre-season testing

Pre-Season or Baseline tests are used to assess an athlete’s balance and brain function (including learning and memory skills, ability to pay attention or concentrate, and how quickly he or she thinks and solve problems), as well as for the presence of any concussion symptoms.

Pre-season Testing

Multimodal pre-season testing is a series of physical and cognitive tests that provides a pre-injury overview of healthy brain function. These tests can offer healthcare practitioners with an objective benchmark on which to compare should a patient sustain a concussion. It’s important to remember that not all baseline testing is created equal. CCMI has selected the best evidence-based tools available to provide you with comprehensive, multimodal, proven baseline-testing.

As concussion symptoms often disappear days to weeks before the brain has recovered, having valuable baseline information may help practitioners to make safer return to play decisions.
