Don’t let knee pain affect your life!
Learn how bracing and Physiotherapy can help your knee
pain associated with arthritis.
Getting a brace for your knee pain can be a confusing and overwhelming task! It is hard to
accept the fact that you may need to ‘brace’ for the day to day activities that you have done all
your life.
However, this process does not have to be hard or disheartening. There are so many braces out
there that one is bound to be perfect for YOU.
Meet Bryan, a 66 year old active golfer. He has moderate osteoarthritis of his right knee but
wants to wait a few years for joint replacement surgery. He was prescribed and fitted for a
custom unloader brace (unloads the arthritic compartment of the knee). He now has less pain
and more knee stability- allowing him to enjoy a golf game and stay active. He could not be
happier!

Getting the right brace really can help you return to the activities that you love!
TYPES OF KNEE BRACES FOR ARTHRITIS
1. Compression Sleeve– these braces provide minimal support but can minimize swelling
and help with proprioception (the body’s ability to keep your knee stable)
2. Hinged knee brace– these braces provide side-side stability for your knee. This helps
support movement and walking. They also can provide compression for swelling control
and proprioceptive feedback.

3. Unloaders– these braces unload the arthritic compartment of your knee. This decreases
pain and inflammation in your knee. They are usually custom made to your knee and
provide support and stability as well as the unloading.
